el morro

El Morro

Ever since the 1500s, when Spanish soldiers and priests first carved their names into the sandstone of the mesa, people have camped near El Morro due to a nearby waterhole. Now a national monument, this beautiful place, near Grants, New Mexico, affords amazing views of the surrounding area.

I am finding more and more how truly difficult it is to take a nice landscape photograph--to get the proper balance between foreground elements and that which is further away. Clearly, beautiful scenery in real life needs something extra to help it translate to a moment in two dimensions in order to even begin to convey the same beauty, and I definitely have not figured it out yet. Maybe someday...
